Wednesday October 14: TODAY’S MEDIA COVERAGE OF PHYSICIAN TAX ISSUE; RSVP FOR RALLY

Please see today’s Detroit News editorial, titled “Unhealthy Tax,” opposing the 3% physician tax to subsidize Medicaid. The Detroit News got it right when they asked, “Could there be a bigger incentive to leave the state? Could there be a bigger disincentive for newly licensed physicians to set up practice here?” Click here to read the editorial.

Also, today the Detroit News ran an Op Ed piece from MSMS explaining that the added business cost will surely cause physicians to flee Michigan. It points out that Michigan is home to some of the best physicians and physician scientists in America. And, health care provides more than a half-million jobs in Michigan.

Watch for details via email regarding next Tuesday’s (Oct. 20) Rally in Lansing to drive home our message, “Vote NO on the Physician Tax.” To RSVP for the Rally, visit www.KeepDocsInMich.org. Confirmations with full details will be emailed later this week to those who RSVP.

Can anyone address the following issue? The physician tax is being proposed in order to raise money for Michigan to qualify for federal matching dollars. My own state representative indicates that monies will return to Michigan docs in the form in increased reimbursement from seeing Medicaid patients. But I have not seen any guarantee of this, nor whether the increased revenue from reimbursement would offset the tax. Can anyone address this?
